Jaguar XKR Paint Correction and Wax – 9 Years After OP888 Coating

Jaguar XKR Paint Correction and Wax Before Sale

This Jaguar XKR came back to us around 9 years after we originally coated it with OPTiX OP888 for Simon.

This time the car was being prepared for sale, so the goal was not to turn it into a full show car or spend silly money chasing every last mark. The goal was to bring the paint back to a sharper, cleaner, more saleable condition with proper paint correction and wax protection.

The paint correction cost was $1200.

That sort of job is about choosing the right level of correction for the car and the situation. When a car is being prepared for sale, it still needs to present properly, but the work also has to make sense. There is no point spending more than the car or the sale situation justifies.

The Jaguar had swirl marks and general paint wear that needed correcting to bring back the clarity and gloss. Paint correction works by refining the clear coat surface itself. That is where the real clarity comes from. It is not just about wiping something shiny over the top.

When the clear coat is refined properly, the surface reflects light more cleanly. That gives the paint better shine, sharper reflections and a more cared-for appearance.

Once the correction was done, the paint was waxed.

Wax is not the same as a long-term ceramic coating, but it still has its place. For a vehicle being prepared for sale, a quality wax can give the paint warmth, depth and short-term protection while helping the car present well to a buyer.

This is also a good example of why long-term care matters. A car that has had proper protection in the past and has been looked after is usually easier to bring back than one that has been neglected for years.

The old OP888 coating had done its job over time. No coating lasts forever, especially over 9 years of real-world use, washing, UV, weather and road grime. Everything exposed to the environment slowly wears away over time.

That is why correction and protection work together.

Correction brings the paint back by refining the surface.

Protection helps slow down the environment from attacking that corrected surface again.

For this Jaguar XKR, the right choice was paint correction and wax to bring the car back to a strong presentation level before sale.

Not overdone.

Not underdone.

Just the right job for the situation.
