Some cars get older.
Some cars get better because the owner keeps putting the right work into them.
Steve’s Commodore is a good example.
This car is now around 17 years old, but it does not feel like something that has just been left to age. It is Steve’s pride and joy, and over the years he has kept improving it, maintaining it and enjoying it properly.
The latest stage of the build involved custom interior work by Lorenzo Poli Motor Trimmer, who is located right next door to AutoFX WA and OPTiX Nano in the same O’Connor complex.
That is one of the nice things about being where we are. There are still proper trades around. Not just businesses doing quick cosmetic work, but people who actually understand materials, fitment, finish and how to make an older car feel special again.
Lorenzo’s work gave Steve’s Commodore a completely different feel inside.
The interior now has that luxury Italian-style feel with leather and Alcantara, giving the car a much more refined and premium cabin without taking away what the car still is.
It is still a driver’s car.
It still has a real instrument display.
It still feels like a Commodore.
But now it has the type of interior finish that makes you want to sit in it and actually enjoy the car again.
The upgrades also included modern touch screen Apple CarPlay / Android Auto connectivity and a touch screen climate control display, bringing the car forward without turning it into something fake or overdone.
That balance matters.
There is a big difference between modernising an older car tastefully and ruining the character of it.
This one still feels like Steve’s car.
Just better.
After Lorenzo completed the interior work, the car came straight next door to AutoFX WA for paint correction and wax.
That makes sense because when the inside of a car is brought up to that level, the outside needs to match.
The paint was corrected to improve clarity, gloss and reflection. Paint correction is not just making the surface shiny with a quick product. It is refining the clear coat itself so the reflections become cleaner and the finish looks sharper.
Once the paint was corrected, wax was applied for protection and finish.
Steve’s Commodore has also already had paint protection film installed by us previously, including PPF to the bonnet, front bumper, roof and boot.
That is a fairly serious protection setup for a car of this age, but it makes sense when the owner genuinely cares about keeping the vehicle in good condition.
The combination of custom interior trim, paint correction, wax and PPF gives this Commodore a completely different level of presentation.
It is not trying to be a brand new car.
That is not the point.
The point is taking a car the owner loves and bringing the whole thing up another level.
Interior.
Exterior.
Protection.
Usability.
Enjoyment.
That is what makes this type of job satisfying.
A 17 year old Commodore with custom leather and Alcantara, modern connectivity, proper paint correction, wax, and paint protection film is exactly the kind of enthusiast-owned car that deserves to keep being used and enjoyed.
Good work next door by Lorenzo Poli Motor Trimmer, and good on Steve for continuing to look after the car properly.
