In metalwork, there is an old understanding: you cannot fight the material; you must guide it. Like water finding its path down a mountain, metal moves smoothly only when you respect its natural stress points. If you force it brutally, it breaks.

We see too many premium imports come into our O’Connor shop with ruined, kinked guards because an operator thought guard rolling was just about bolting on a tool and cranking the pressure. That is not how we operate.

On this Toyota Crown, the goal was to clear wider rubber while keeping the modification completely conservative and clean. To do this right, we didn’t just force a roller onto the metal.

First, we manually removed the factory metal fender trim to expose the raw working area. Next, we strategically extracted exactly three plastic plugs from the inner liner. This allowed the plastic to flex out of the way safely without losing its structural mounting points.

Using a precise combination of both the guard roller and dedicated hammer work, we gradually transitioned the inner lip flat. By taking a conservative approach, the outer panel remained perfectly smooth, free of the ugly ripples or sharp kinks that ruin a car’s value.

For aftercare, the plastic inner guards should be trimmed neatly right up to the section where we intentionally left the remaining plugs. This leaves you with solid, factory remounting points to snap the trim back into place securely.

Thank you Carlton for the business.
