Nissan R34 GTS-T Paint Correction, Rear Guard Rolling and FMJ Coating

This black R34 GTS-T came to us through one of our regular customers, Jeff Ash.

Jeff is a proper OG in the Perth JDM scene.

He has been around Japanese cars for a long time, had serious involvement in the tuning scene years ago, and is someone who genuinely understands Japanese car culture.

These days he still buys and sells Japanese imports, often on the more affordable side of the market, and he has always been someone who appreciates honest work and good people.

This particular R34 was for Jeff’s father.

That made the job a bit more special.

The car had received a fresh paint job before coming to us. Our job was to polish the paint properly, detail and clean the Recaro seats and interior, roll the rear guards, and then protect the paint with two layers of OPTiX FMJ Graphene coating.

This was not a quick job.

Seth and Brandon spent close to four days on the correction. I would say there was around 40 hours of polishing involved.

They took their time, worked carefully and did not take silly risks.

That matters on fresh paint.

Freshly painted cars can look good from a distance, but once they are under proper lighting, you often find sanding marks, haze, polish marks, texture differences and areas that need proper refinement.

The aim was to bring the paint up as best as possible without rushing.

The polishing was done using a combination of OPTiX and Scholl compounds, depending on what the paint needed in different areas.

Good correction work is not about one product or one pad doing the whole car.

The paint tells you what it wants.

Some areas need more correction.

Some need more refinement.

Some need time more than anything else.

The rear guards were also rolled to suit the wheels.

Considering the car had been resprayed, this was always something that needed care. Fresh paint and rolled guards can be risky if the panel has filler or previous damage hiding in it.

But this car was surprisingly straight.

I could see every spot weld in the guard area. It was clean. Really clean.

The guards came up perfect.

That does not happen on every older Japanese car, especially one that has been painted. But this one showed that the car itself was straight and the guard areas were in good condition.

The Recaro seats and interior were also cleaned and detailed while the car was with us.

Once the correction was complete, the paint received two layers of OPTiX FMJ Graphene coating.

This is where the whole job comes together.

The correction refines the clear coat surface. That is where the clarity and shine come from. You are permanently improving the paint surface itself.

FMJ then adds the tough bonded glass-like coating layer over the top. That layer increases gloss, slickness, reflections and depth while helping protect the finish from washing, UV, road grime, bird droppings, tree sap and general environmental wear.

This was a no-shortcut job.

Not because we were trying to show off.

Because it was for Jeff’s father, and Jeff trusted Seth and Brandon to do the job properly.

That means a lot.
