This well restored 1975 HJ GTS Monaro owned by Tom came into our workshop in OโConnor for professional paint correction.
ย
Unlike modern vehicles, older paint systems can vary significantly in thickness and durability, requiring a more cautious and experienced approach.
ย
Classic vehicles like this often present unique challenges. The paint depth assessment showed that both the bonnet and boot required careful consideration, as the defects were quite deep and aggressive correction could risk compromising the paint.
ย
In this case, I made the decision not to chase every defect. Going beyond approximately 90 microns in certain areas would have introduced unnecessary risk. Instead, the focus was on improving overall clarity, gloss, and consistency while maintaining the integrity of the original paint.
ย
This is a common approach in classic car detailing โ itโs not about perfection at all costs, but about achieving the best possible finish safely.
ย
After a full multi-stage paint correction process, the finish was significantly improved, bringing out the depth and colour these cars are known for.
ย
Itโs important to understand that paint correction is what creates gloss. Any form of protection applied afterwards will only enhance and preserve what is already there.

Once corrected, vehicles like this can also be protected with modern ceramic coatings for long-term durability.
