Everything you need to know about guard rolling on Ford utes from AUs to FGs.
Here is a typical FAQ from Ford owners wanting to find someone to roll the rear guards on ute from a AU, BA, BF and FG model.
Q. Hey mate do you so guard rolling ? I have a fg falcon ute and need rear guards done have looked everywhere and can’t find anyone to do them
A. Sorry no because of the metal reinforcement plate.
Q. Is it 100% a NO?
A. Actually it can be rolled but without some serious effort that will cost much much more and expect damage to occur small or large.
Q. Why? and what about if the reinforcement plate was cut off some how?
A. So even if part of the plate was cut away the problem is the plate cant be removed from the lip because of it is spot welded in 2 places. If you drilled out the welds that would release the plate but then there would be extreme weak points in which will kink or distort.
Q. Why are there spot welds?
A. because the whole entire metal skin is supported by this support panel which needs to be attached to give it strength.
Q. what are my other options?
A. have the lip cut off through a panel shop that I recommend? but if the cut goes past the spot welds then you panel will be somewhat loose. So to rectify the problem you either need to weld the 2 panels or glue the 2 panels to keep them rigid and supported.
