This Range Rover Sport Autobiography arrived at AutoFX WA in O’Connor in very good condition from the dealer, so it did not need a heavy paint correction. We still inspected the entire vehicle carefully before deciding what preparation was required.
Finishing polish across the complete vehicle
Although the paint presented well, we gave the whole vehicle a finishing polish before coating. This included the large amount of gloss-black trim fitted to this Range Rover Sport Autobiography. Those smaller and more intricate areas were polished using a nano cordless polisher, while further paint correction was carried out only where it was needed.
This distinction matters. A finishing polish across well-presented paint is different from carrying out heavier correction over the whole vehicle. We did not remove more clear coat than necessary simply to make the job sound bigger. The inspection determined where additional correction would improve the finish.
A dealer-supplied or brand-new vehicle is not automatically ready for coating, but it does not always need extensive correction either. The right preparation depends on the actual paint condition under proper workshop lighting. Our new-car ceramic coating service begins with that inspection rather than applying exactly the same correction process to every vehicle.
Applying OPTiX Nano FMJ 6 Year ceramic coating
Once the polishing and required correction were complete, we prepared the surfaces and applied OPTiX Nano FMJ 6 Year ceramic coating. Starting with well-presented paint certainly helps, but careful preparation and controlled application still matter.
A ceramic coating can make regular washing easier, support water behaviour and help maintain a well-presented finish. It will not stop stone chips, make the paint scratch-proof or remove the need for careful washing and maintenance. How the coating performs over time also depends on what the vehicle is exposed to and how it is looked after.
Coating aftercare still matters
A pH-neutral wash product is a sensible starting point for coated paint. OPTiX Wash & Gloss is suitable for regular washing, while OPTiX Final Boost can be used as an after-wash hydrophobic maintenance product.
Clean wash media, suitable drying towels and careful technique are just as important as the products being used. AutoFX WA also keeps a range of car-care and coating aftercare products available for owners who want to maintain their vehicle properly between workshop visits.
Why we ask for the vehicle’s trickle charger
Modern vehicles such as this Range Rover can draw considerable current while workshop work is underway. Repeatedly opening the doors can wake the screens, control modules and automatic features, and those systems may remain active longer than expected.
For vehicles like this, we ask owners to bring their trickle charger with the vehicle where possible. It is a practical step that helps us manage the battery while doors need to be opened throughout the preparation, polishing and coating work.
Ceramic coating preparation based on the vehicle
This Range Rover was a good example of why we inspect first. It arrived with well-presented paint, received a complete finishing polish including its gloss-black trim, and needed further correction only in selected areas. That gave us the right surface for the OPTiX Nano FMJ coating without carrying out unnecessary heavy correction.
For Perth owners considering ceramic coating, the best starting point is an inspection of the actual vehicle. Paint condition, vehicle use and the owner’s maintenance plans all help determine the right preparation.
