Range Rover Evoque Paint Correction and Ceramic Coating at Our O’Connor Workshop
This Range Rover Evoque belongs to Jannine and had recently been purchased second-hand.
The dealership had presented the vehicle very well and it had clearly been detailed before delivery. However, a vehicle being detailed does not necessarily mean the paint has undergone a full paint correction.
Under proper inspection lighting the paint was still heavily affected by wash marring and scratches. The piano black trim pieces around the vehicle were also covered in swirl marks, which is extremely common with these softer high-gloss plastic surfaces.
A good dealership detail often improves the appearance of a vehicle significantly, but it rarely includes the level of paint correction required to truly restore the finish.
Even when others claim correction has been completed, it is often not to the standard required to meet the level of finish we aim for at AutoFX WA.
Paint Correction – 22 Hours Over Three Days
Correcting the paint on this Evoque required approximately 22 hours of paint correction work spread across three days.
Before correction begins, every vehicle goes through a detailed preparation process including:
• paint thickness readings
• extensive washing
• chemical decontamination
• mechanical decontamination
• taping of trims and sensitive areas.
Only once the paint has been properly cleaned and inspected can the correction process begin.
This preparation phase is one of the reasons customers are willing to travel from across Perth to our O’Connor workshop. It ensures that the correction process is safe and that the results are consistent.
Wheels Removed for Cleaning and Ceramic Coating
The wheels were removed from the vehicle so they could be properly cleaned and coated.
This allows access to areas that are normally impossible to reach while the wheels are mounted on the car.
Two coats of ceramic coating were applied to the wheels, which took approximately three hours to complete.
This helps protect the finish and makes brake dust and contamination significantly easier to remove during normal washing.
Interior Preparation and Protection
Although the interior of the Evoque was already considered very clean, all of the normal preparation processes were still carried out.
Regardless of the condition of a vehicle, labour is still required to clean and prepare the interior properly before applying protection products.
Once prepared, the interior received OPTiX INTERIOR X ceramic coating on the leather, vinyl and plastic trim.
This is a semi-permanent interior coating that helps:
• make surfaces easier to clean
• repel grime and spills
• reduce staining on frequently used areas.
The carpets were also protected using OPTiX Nano Fabric Coating, which creates a hydrophobic barrier designed to help repel liquids and contamination.
Two Layers of FMJ Graphene Coating
Once the paint correction was completed, the vehicle received two layers of OPTiX FMJ graphene coating.
FMJ is designed to be an extremely durable coating that provides strong chemical resistance and hydrophobic behaviour while protecting the finish underneath.
It is rated for up to six years of protection when maintained correctly.
However, the number of years advertised for a coating should never be the sole factor used to judge how good a coating actually is.
In the real world, vehicles experience:
• washing
• environmental fallout
• daily driving
• contact with dirt and contamination.
Because of this, even coated vehicles will gradually accumulate wash marring and light scratches over time.
At AutoFX WA we take a realistic approach to paint protection.
Rather than advertising unrealistic “lifetime finishes,” we recognise that life happens and vehicles will eventually require correction again in the future.
A six-year coating provides excellent protection while still allowing the paint to be corrected again later when needed.
