Its just a daily family car should I even bother?

Paint Protection Helps, but It Cannot Guarantee Future Results

Does Paint Protection Guarantee the Future?

All car paint needs some form of protection. However, no product can guarantee how the paint will look years from now.

To me, it is similar to using sunscreen and trying to live a healthy life. We do these things because they help, but they do not promise a perfect result.

Both of my parents lived healthy lives but still developed cancer. Sadly, my mum’s life was cut short. However, the good health she enjoyed before cancer still gave her many fairly problem-free years.

Living well did not guarantee the final outcome. Even so, it still had value throughout the journey.

I look at a car and its paint in much the same way.

What Paint Protection Can Do

Ceramic coating or paint protection film cannot stop every scratch, chip, stain or mark.

There are too many things outside our control. A vehicle may be driven every day, parked outside, washed incorrectly or exposed to harsh conditions.

However, protection gives the paint a better chance. It can also make the vehicle easier to wash and maintain.

Instead of leaving the paint exposed, you are putting something in place to help look after it.

That is what paint protection means to me. It is not a promise that the car will remain perfect. It is about doing what you reasonably can to care for the vehicle while you own it.

Is It Worth Protecting a Daily Family Car?

The dollar value of a car does not decide how much care it deserves.

In fact, a daily family car may need more protection than a luxury vehicle stored safely in a garage. A family car is often exposed to sun, rain, shopping centres, school parking areas and everyday road use.

It may not be someone’s pride and joy, but it still needs to work hard every day.

My Recommendation

For this vehicle, I would apply PPF to the bonnet, roof and rear spoiler. I would then protect the remaining paint with FMJ ceramic coating.

The price for FMJ ceramic coating with the minimum preparation required would be approximately $1,300.

This price does not include paint correction, which helps keep the overall cost down.
