Mercedes C63 Paint Correction After PPF Removal – O’Connor Perth

Mercedes C63 Paint Correction After PPF Removal at Our O’Connor Workshop

This black Mercedes C63 came in after Luke had recently purchased the vehicle and wanted it brought back to a true “like new” finish.

The front end of the car had previously been protected with PPF, however over time the film had begun to lose clarity and no longer had that sharp, mirror-like gloss.

This is something we commonly see with older paint protection film. While it serves its purpose, it can eventually dull the appearance of the paint underneath.

Safe PPF Removal and Preparation

The first stage of this job was the removal of the existing PPF from the front end.

This process took just under 4 hours, and fortunately the film had aged well enough that there was minimal adhesive left behind.

Any remaining residue was safely removed before moving into the correction stage.

Luke had already taken the time to ensure the vehicle was very clean before bringing it in, which gave us a good head start.

Even so, the vehicle still underwent full preparation including:

• thorough wash
• decontamination
• inspection under lighting

before any machine polishing began.

Paint Correction – Restoring Gloss and Clarity

The paint correction process took approximately 14 hours to complete.

Black paint shows every defect, and under proper lighting the surface revealed the typical wash marring and light scratches that accumulate over time.

To achieve a high level finish, we used:

• OPTiX 21mm dual action polisher
• OPTiX Nano polisher
• OPTiX slim line pads
• OPTiX Utopia compound for the cutting stage
• OPTiX Utopia ultra fine for refinement

The cutting stage removes defects and levels the surface, while the refinement stage enhances clarity and depth.

This combination produces a swirl-free, buffer mark-free, high gloss mirror finish prior to applying any form of paint protection.

As always, the goal is to improve the finish responsibly without removing unnecessary clear coat.

Ready for Paint Protection

Once the correction was completed, the paintwork was properly prepared for paint protection.

Whether applying ceramic coating or other protection systems, the finish underneath must be correct first.

Coatings lock in the result achieved through correction.
