Land Rover Paint Correction and Graphene Coating at Our O’Connor Workshop
This Land Rover belongs to Mr Simon and is around 15 years old, but it has been extremely well looked after throughout its life.
Despite being cared for, the paint had accumulated the usual wash marring and light defects that occur over time. This is completely normal in the real world, even for well maintained vehicles.
To restore the finish properly, the vehicle underwent a full paint correction, which took around three days to complete (22hours).
Modern paint systems require careful correction because factory clear coat is not particularly thick. The goal is always to improve the finish responsibly rather than aggressively removing unnecessary paint.
Once the correction work was completed the clarity of the paint was dramatically improved and ready for long term protection.
Headlight Restoration With Permanent Clear Coat Protection
The headlights were also restored as part of this project. Time 2 hours
Over time, polycarbonate headlights oxidise and become dull due to UV exposure.
Rather than simply polishing the headlights and applying a coating, we refinished them and applied a sprayed clear coat.
This approach seals the surface completely and prevents oxygen from reaching the polycarbonate.
A coating can help slow oxidation, but it does not seal the material in the same way that clear coat does. Properly refinishing and sealing the headlights provides a much longer lasting solution.
Two Layers of FMJ Graphene Coating
Once the paint correction was completed, the vehicle received two layers of OPTiX FMJ graphene coating. (10 hours over 2 days)
This coating is designed to provide strong long-term protection with excellent chemical resistance and hydrophobic behaviour.
It is rated for up to six years of protection when properly maintained.
However, the number of years advertised for a coating should not be the only factor when judging its strength.
In the real world, vehicles are exposed to washing, environmental contamination and everyday use. Because of this, coatings should not be seen as something that locks in the paint condition indefinitely.
At OPTiX and AutoFX WA we take a more realistic approach.
In our experience, around 90% of coated vehicles eventually develop wash marring and light scratches over time simply because life happens.
For this reason, we prefer coatings that provide strong protection while still allowing the paint to be corrected again in the future when needed.
Time Taken
This Land Rover remained at our O’Connor workshop for just under two weeks to complete:
• full paint correction
• headlight restoration and clear coating
• application of two layers of FMJ graphene coating.
Taking the time to complete each step properly ensures the finish looks its best and the protection performs as intended.
Paint Correction and Ceramic Coating in Perth
AutoFX WA is located in O’Connor within the City of Fremantle, with customers travelling from across Perth for paint correction and ceramic coating services.
Every vehicle is assessed individually, and the preparation process is tailored to the condition of the paint before protection is applied.
