We recently took delivery of a brand-new Land Rover Defender 110 Trophyโa vehicle shape we had never wrapped before. To provide maximum survivability for this custom build, we bypassed standard 7.5mil industry films and chose ultra-thick OPTIX Clear Gloss PPF-M 10mil.
Installing a true 10mil film increases physical impact resistance exponentially, but it changes the installation mechanics completely, especially during a Perth winter. Cold temperatures make polyurethane film rigid and stubborn.
The Defender features sharp lines and prominent gloss black contrast sections. If you pull a heavy 10mil film incorrectly under these conditions, the extreme tension creates immediate stretch marks, silvering, or adhesive distortion that ruins the optical clarity. Every anchor point and stretch required deliberate, calculated pressure.
