Brembo Six-Pot Caliper Painting Off the Car

Ben brought a set of six-pot Brembo calipers in for painting.

These were not brand new calipers. They had been used, and you could tell they had not had the easiest life.

The clear coat had delaminated, the finish was tired, and the calipers needed a fair bit of cleaning before they were ready for paint.

Caliper painting is always easier to make look good when the parts are clean and well maintained, but that is not always what we get.

When clear coat starts lifting and the surface has baked-on brake dust, grime and old staining, the preparation takes time.

These calipers were painted off the car, which gives better access than painting them on the vehicle. You can handle the calipers properly, clean more of the surface and get into areas that are difficult when everything is still mounted behind the wheel.

That does not mean the job becomes easy. Old brake parts are dirty, textured and awkward.

You need to clean properly, remove loose or failed coating, prepare the surface, mask what needs masking, and then paint them in a way that improves the look without pretending they are brand new.

That was the goal with Ben’s Brembos. Bring them back to a much cleaner, fresher appearance.

Not oversell them as new. Not pretend every old mark disappears.

Just make them look good again for what they are. The final result came up pretty good considering the starting point.

That is often the reality with caliper painting.

If they come in with delaminated clear, heavy grime and rough use, the result depends heavily on how much damage is already in the surface.

But with the right preparation and paint process, tired calipers can still be brought back to a much nicer finish.
