Mazda 10 Mil PPF Installation in Perth

Chris travelled from Warwick to our O’Connor workshop for Mazda 10 mil PPF in Perth.

His Mazda was only one year old, and he wanted to protect a large part of the vehicle. The planned coverage included the roof, bonnet, front bumper, front guards, all four doors and the rear bumper deck.

We also planned to remove the door handles. This would allow us to finish the film more neatly around the handle recesses.

Unfortunately, we made a mistake before the installation began.

A Delay With the 10 Mil PPF

A communication error delayed the arrival of the 10 mil paint protection film by about two weeks.

Once I became aware of the problem, I contacted Chris and explained what had happened. I believe it is better to be honest with a customer than make excuses or leave them wondering.

We had another slightly thinner film available. Therefore, we could have completed the Mazda much sooner.

The difference was small, and Chris was initially happy to use the available film. It would have allowed him to collect his car without waiting another two weeks.

At first, this seemed like the easiest solution.

Was the Faster Option the Right Option?

I then stopped and looked at the situation from Chris’s side.

He had selected 10 mil PPF from the beginning. It was the protection he wanted on his Mazda, even though the difference between the two options was not large.

I asked myself whether I was recommending the available film because it was right for Chris or simply more convenient for us.

That changed my view.

I told Chris that, for my own vehicle, I would wait and receive what I had originally chosen. Two weeks of inconvenience is short compared with the years he intends to own and enjoy the car.

Chris agreed and decided to wait for the correct material.

Why We Waited for the 10 Mil Film

The decision was not based on claiming that one small difference in thickness would completely change the result.

It was about giving Chris the product he had selected.

Had we installed the available film, he may have always wondered whether waiting would have been the better decision. I did not want him to feel that he had accepted something different because of an error at our end.

Sometimes it is better to accept a short inconvenience and complete the job as originally planned.

Removing the Mazda Door Handles

Once the correct 10 mil PPF arrived, we started the installation.

The door handles were removed so we could work more neatly around the handle recesses. This also allowed us to wrap and finish the film without simply cutting around every visible edge.

Removing parts is not required for every PPF installation. However, it can improve the finish on areas where working around a component would leave a more noticeable edge.

We discuss this with the vehicle owner before beginning the work.

Extensive PPF Coverage for the Mazda

The completed Mazda PPF package covered:

• Bonnet

• Front bumper

• Front guards

• Roof

• All four doors

• Rear bumper deck

These areas face different types of everyday wear.

The front receives much of the road debris and stone-chip exposure. The doors can collect scratches and marks during regular use. The roof and rear areas are also exposed to weather, washing and environmental contamination.

Paint protection film cannot prevent every possible mark or impact. However, it gives the original paint a physical sacrificial layer.

The Importance of Looking Beyond Convenience

This job was not only about choosing between two PPF thicknesses.

It was a reminder that convenience should not always decide the outcome.

The easiest option would have been to install the material we already had. We could have completed the job sooner and moved on to the next booking.

However, the ordering problem was ours. Chris should not have had to change his original choice simply to make the situation easier for us.

That is why we waited.
