AMG GLE53 Interior Protection with OPTIX INTERIOR X in Perth

We recently completed interior protection on a brand new AMG GLE53 brought to AutoFX WA from Attadale. The work involved applying OPTIX INTERIOR X across the leather, Alcantara/micro suede, plastics and wood panels.

Interior protection is not a matter of treating every surface exactly the same. A modern AMG cabin combines several different materials, often with different textures, coatings and levels of daily contact. Leather seating, soft Alcantara or micro suede, plastics and wood trims all need to be considered as individual surfaces rather than one general โ€œinteriorโ€ category.

What was protected on this AMG GLE53

For this job, OPTIX INTERIOR X was applied to the main interior material groups:

  • Leather
  • Alcantara/micro suede
  • Plastic trims
  • Wood panels

The purpose of an interior coating is to provide an added protective layer on the surfaces that are regularly touched, sat on and cleaned. It does not make an interior wear-proof, and it does not remove the need for sensible cleaning. The vehicleโ€™s use, the products used to clean it and how often each area is contacted will all affect how the protection performs over time.

Expected durability depends on where and how the vehicle is used

OPTIX INTERIOR X is designed to provide protection for up to three years in regularly used areas. That is a useful guide, not a promise that every part of every vehicle will perform identically for the same period.

Driverโ€™s seats, steering wheels, centre consoles and frequently handled trims tend to receive the most contact. They are exposed to body oils, clothing friction, regular cleaning and day-to-day use. These areas will generally show wear sooner than parts of the cabin that are rarely used.

In this AMG GLE53, the rear seats may see very little use. Where those areas remain lightly used and are cleaned appropriately, the coating may last considerably longer. In some cases, that can be up to 10 years, but it remains dependent on the vehicleโ€™s use and care rather than being a guaranteed result.

Why material-specific judgement matters

Leather, Alcantara/micro suede, plastics and wood panels do not all respond the same way to cleaners, dressings or protection products. Applying the wrong product, or applying too much of a product, can leave unwanted residue or alter the appearance and feel of an interior surface.

That is why interior protection should be approached with the actual materials in mind. The goal is not to make every surface look artificially glossy. It is to protect the cabin while respecting the finish the manufacturer intended.

Exterior and interior protection are also separate considerations. Our ceramic coating service information explains the role of paint protection on exterior painted surfaces, while interior coatings need to suit materials such as leather, textiles and trim. The preparation and application decisions are different because the surfaces are different.

Looking after a protected interior

Protection works best when it is followed by sensible maintenance. Avoid aggressive cleaners, harsh brushes and products that are not intended for the surface being cleaned. Regular light cleaning is generally preferable to allowing soil and spills to build up before using strong products.

For ongoing maintenance options, see our range of car-care products available in Perth. The right product should always match the surface being cleaned, particularly on Alcantara/micro suede and delicate trim finishes.

For this AMG GLE53, the focus was straightforward: protect the leather, soft trim, plastics and wood panels while the vehicle was new, and set realistic expectations around how long that protection may last in different parts of the cabin.
